While many enjoy ice skating or skating in general, not everyone gets to appreciate figure skating. When trying to appreciate this Olympic sport, also try getting to know the people who shook the figure skating world. Some of them are even known in other industries as well.
- 1. Julie Benz
Topping the list is American actress Julie Benz. Winning awards all over the industry and is currently starring in Hawaii Five-O, Julie used to be a figure skater. Although she did not win anything big, she started her training while she was 3 years old. She even went on to compete in the 1988 US Championships while she was still 16 finished in 13th place.
- 2. Katarina Witt
If there is anyone who has won multiple awards throughout her career, it would be Katarina Witt. She trained hard since 1977, training 6 days a week, 7 hours a day. From her entire career from 1978 to 1994, there was a never year where she did not win anything. She wont 1st place in majority of the international competitions twice in 1983 and 1987. This included Olympics, Worlds, Europeans, Skate Canada, and NHK Trophy.
- 3. Analeigh Tipton
Making her name in different industries such as modeling and Hollywood, Analeigh Tipton also used to be figure skater. She competed in 4 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championship and even became champions twice with her partner. She retired at the age of 16 where she slowly moved in to the modelling industry and soon landing a role in the movie Crazy, Stupid, Love.
- 4. Tanith Belbin
Like Katarina, Tanith Belbin has made her focus solely on ice skating. That definitely paid off. She now brags with a silver medal from 2006 Olympics, 4-time medalist at Worlds, 3-time champion at Worlds, and 5-time champion in the U.S.
- 5. Johnny Weir
As alread seen from this list, most of the famous figure skater tend to be women. Johnny, however, proves otherwise. He has won bronze medal twice at the Grand Prix final, thrice as champion of the U.S., bronze at 2008 Worlds, and champion at 2001 Worlds.
